Papillion-La Vista High School announced the honor roll list for the second semester of the 2008-2009 school year. These students have earned recognition based on their outstanding academic achievement. In order to earn honor recognition, a student must earn a 3.5 GPA or higher and be enrolled in at least five graded classes. The following students earned honor roll:
Steve Trevino has spent a lot of time studying and playing against the Derby Twins the last couple of years as a member of the El Dorado Broncos’ pitching staff. Trevino showed he studied well as he shut down the Twins’ offense for six of the seven innings he faced them as the Broncos beat Derby 12-3 Wednesday night in Jayhawk League action at McDonald Stadium.

BERLIN — The town’s months-long controversy over how its trash would be picked up ended Thursday evening with an announcement from Mayor Adam Salina. Since town manager Denise McNair received no trash-removal bids from contractors the town would honor its five-year contract with Trash-Away of New Britain and convert to automatic pickup.
CUMBERLAND — Blue skies and sunshine, the first in weeks, made for a “picture perfect” day at the 83rd Annual Arnold Mills Fourth of July Parade. Saturday’s weather was a dramatic improvement to the clouds and rain that dominated the past month.

Visitors and residents will soon be able to purchase odds and ends downtown. Pete and Linda Whipple, owners of The Whipple Tree, 219 Huron Ave. in Port Huron, plan to open the Harbor Marketplace down the block at 229 Huron Ave.
