Raising awareness, funds for Down Syndrome

The Down Syndrome Association will host its first Buddy Walk at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Desloge on Oct. 18. The event begins at 10 a.m. with a picnic. Buddies will line up to walk at 1:15 p.m. in the Wal-Mart parking lot. They’ll walk from there to Desloge Drive and over to McDonald’s. The walk ends at 3 p.m.

SIDS PREVENTION: Fans appear to cut risk of infant deaths

CHICAGO — Using a fan to circulate air seemed to lower the risk of sudden infant death syndrome in a study of nearly 500 babies, researchers reported Monday. Placing babies on their backs to sleep is the best advice for preventing SIDS, still a mysterious cause of death.
