It was a hot Friday afternoon in August 2007 when 16 dogs arrived, unexpected, at the front door of the Humane Society of the Ochocos.Delivered by the Crook County Sheriff’s Office, the dogs had been taken from a 70-acre property in Powell Butte, where they lived in old cars and fended for themselves.
