PORT CLINTON, Ohio -- If you're looking for one word to describe the mayflies that blanket Lake Erie's shoreline towns every summer, a good one might be biblical. Every year, from late June to early July, millions of mayflies emerge from the lake bottom at dusk to do two things: mate and die. (Three, if you count being food for birds, bats, other insects, etc.)
