After pounding Esparto for a North Bay League doubleheader sweep last Saturday, the Sonoma Valley Joe DiMaggio baseball boys faced the first of their three toughest opponents so far this season and upended the Vallejo Mets 7-5 in Wednesday's first round of the Napa Fourth of July Tournament at the Veteran's Home Field in Yountville.

Both the Valley's older and younger boys' baseball teams were triumphant in multiple ways earlier this week. Last weekend, the Sonoma Valley Joe DiMaggio team improved its North Bay League early season record to 6-0 by sweeping Cardinal Newman in a doubleheader and single game.
