COLUMBIA — Stem cell research has been considered by some to be the next area in science that could potentially produce life-saving cures, but controversy over the issue has limited research opportunities. An MU researcher thinks he has found a way to avoid the controversy altogether. R. Michael Roberts, curator's professor of molecular biochemistry in MU's animal sciences division and a member ...
Washington, July 4: Researchers at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) have shown that there are certain molecular differences between embryonic stem cells and skin cells skin cells reprogrammed into embryonic-like cells.
UCLA researchers have found that embryonic stem cells and skin cells reprogrammed into embryonic-like cells have inherent molecular differences, demonstrating for the first time that the two cell types are clearly distinguishable from one another.
More than 40 scientists, bioethicists, lawyers and science journal editors are calling on their colleagues, policy makers and the public to begin developing guidelines for the research and reproductive use of stem cell-derived eggs and sperm, even though such use may be a decade or more away.
NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – The nearly C$670 million ($576.8 million) that the Canada Foundation for Innovation recently pumped into research projects and infrastructure will fund a range of genomics and proteomics studies and institutes spread across the nation.
The salamander is a superhero of regeneration, able to replace lost limbs, damaged lungs, sliced spinal cord -- even bits of lopped-off brain. But it turns out that remarkable ability isn't so mysterious after all -- suggesting that researchers could learn how to replicate it in people.
Mexican salamanders which can re-grow amputated legs are not pulling off quite as big a biological trick as scientists had first thought
WASHINGTON - Mexican salamanders who can re-grow amputated legs are not pulling off quite as big a biological trick as scientists had first thought, which may help doctors trying to regenerate human limbs.
UCLA researchers have found that embryonic stem cells and skin cells reprogrammed into embryonic-like cells have inherent molecular differences, demonstrating for the first time that the two cell types are clearly distinguishable from one another. The data from the study suggest that embryonic stem cells and the reprogrammed cells, known as induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells, have overlapping ...
