Work is officially underway on a massive flood protection project -- one the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says America has never seen before. Crews are building a huge wall to prevent storm surge from Lake Borgne from pushing into canals and channels in the city.

ROBIN MCDONALD, Special to News Citizen On Tuesday, November 25, Waller County Commissioner Bill Eplen appointed county engineer Orval Rhoads as member of the Transportation Policy Council and appointed the assistant engineer as the member of the Technical Advisory Committee. The rest of Commissioners Court approved the appointments unanimously.
In just a few days, Wellesley will vote on whether to fund a new high school with an estimated cost of approximately $130.6 million. If approved, the plan will be the largest construction project in town history. In the last few weeks, however, a barrage of questions and criticisms has arisen, many of them about the proposed foundation of the new school.
Three companies have received preliminary federal permits to pursue projects that involve the installation of submerged turbine generators at more than 60 locations along the Mississippi, including one at Memphis.
The groundbreaking for the new downtown stadium is set for this winter, but preparations have already begun to alter downtown streets.
