MOSCOW, December 5 (RIA Novosti) - Patriarch Alexy II, who led the Russian Orthodox Church for 18 years, died at the age of 79 in his residency near the Russian capital on Friday morning, the Moscow Patriarchy said.
The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Alexy II, has died, after long illness. He was 79. Alexy was head of Russia's 150 million orthodox believers and was credited with re-establishing the Russian Orthodox Church after the fall of the Soviet Union.
