One hundred years ago, Dec. 6 and 7 would have found Elbert Hubbard presiding over an Arts & Crafts-inspired Roycroft campus in full bloom. Back then artists, artisans and craftspeople would have been hard at work printing and binding books, building furniture, tooling leather, painting, sculpting, fashioning copper and engaging in all manner of artistic pursuits.

Some Holland residents have formed a "grassroots group" called Support our Schools, with its stated main purpose being to inform the School Board and the rest of the town that there are people who support what the superintendent, staff and teachers at Holland are doing for the students.

CHICAGO In a memo Monday to Newspaper Guild-represented employees, Cleveland Plain Dealer Editor Susan Goldberg said "there was insufficient participation" in the paper's buyout offer, and so 27 employees will be notified Tuesday they are being laid off.
