Stores fail tobacco checks

Six local stores failed tobacco compliance checks for selling to a minor Tuesday and all will face fines. Apollo grocery, two Ankeny’s mini-marts, BLS Import, Freedom Gas Station and Hari Food Mart all failed their checks. Twenty-five other stores passed in Austin.

Menifee eases restrictions on alcohol-selling businesses

The Menifee City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to allow alcohol sales 500 feet closer to schools, churches and parks than previously permitted under county law. Before, certain alcohol purveyors -- mainly liquor stores, mini-marts and gas stations -- had to set up shop 1,000 feet from such family oriented sites.
