The McAlester Regional Health Center Board of Trustees convened for their July meeting on Wednesday. The Board was welcomed by the new chairman L.M. Milton, M.D. The meeting opened with the approval of the consent agenda.
Many city, county and state offices will be closed due to the Independence Day holiday. City of McAlester offices will be keeping regular weekday office hours. However, due to the holiday, the McAlester Landfill will be closed on Saturday. Garbage will not be picked up on Saturday.
No signed contract is yet in hand, but repair work is expected to start next week on the Coal Creek Bridge, between McAlester and Tannehill. The job is expected to result in the temporary closing of the bridge for at least four days.
It’s almost time for the sixth annual Stars and Stripes Funfest at the Southeast Expo Center at 4500 W. U.S. Highway 270. On Saturday, an indoor celebration is scheduled from 6-9 p.m. and the fireworks spectacular will begin at dusk, outdoors, of course.
The McAlester Lions Club recently celebrated its 91st anniversary and installed officers for 2009 – 2010 during a banquet held at Pete’s Place. The officers were installed by Lion, Tom Crowl.
