Gowrie girl dies

G0WRIE - A 4-year-old girl died Monday after her mother accidentally backed over her in a pickup truck, according to the Iowa State Patrol. The accident happened at approximately 5:20 p.m. According to the State Patrol report, the driver, Heather Fevold, 28, of rural Gowrie, was backing up when Dakota Fevold, 4, also of rural Gowrie, ran to the passenger side of the truck.

Overs gets 20 years

A Des Moines man was sentenced to 20 years in Webster County District Court Monday for his part in the robbery of three Fort Dodge hotels in 2007. Victor Lee Overs, 24, was sentenced to 10 years for first-degree theft and five years each for two counts of assault while participating in a felony.

Bice named to Iowa court

A Fort Dodge attorney was appointed to become an Iowa District Court judge for Iowa's Judicial District 2B on Saturday. Gov. Chet Culver announced that Thomas Bice will fill the position that Iowa District Court Judge Allan Goode left vacant when he retired for health reasons. ''I am thrilled at the opportunity to serve in the public sector,'' said Bice. ''This is an extreme honor.
