RALEIGH, N.C. -- A North Carolina resident has tested positive for the same strain of salmonella that's linked to a national outbreak. The Salmonella Typhimurium strain has been reported in 43 states since the outbreak began in September.

The Michigan Department of Community Health said there at currently 20 cases in Michigan - including Eaton County - that are part of a national salmonella outbreak that has sent at least a dozen people to the hospital and sickened nearly 400 people, officials said today.
A salmonella outbreak has sickened 388 people in 42 states, health officials in the U.S. said Wednesday. The source of the outbreak is unknown, and the states have not been named.
