Meat recall now affecting Texas; H-E-B stores seek return of beef

Carnivores might want to check their freezers after the H-E-B grocery chain issued a voluntary recall of ground beef, fajita beef, skirt steaks and beef briskets sold in May and June. The grocery chain on Wednesday joined a national recall of beef products thought to have sickened at least 18 people with potentially deadly E. coli infections.

The grouping of two studies featured more than 61,000 vegetarians over a timespan of 12 years and found they contracted less cancer, independent of factors such as smoking, alcohol use and obesity than those who consumed meat or fish or both.
