Today marks the 25th anniversary of Richard Petty's landmark 200th victory, the final triumph of his illustrious driving career.
Petty won the Firecracker 400 at Daytona International Speedway on July 4, 1984, beating Harry Gant and Cale Yarborough. It was Petty's second win that season, but he never made it to Victory Lane again as a driver, retiring after the 1992 season.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 3 (UPI) -- Lee Petty and son Richard are among 25 finalists named for the inaugural NASCAR Hall of Fame induction class in 2010.
Jeremy Mayfield missed the deadline to enter this weekend's race after successfully fighting NASCAR to get back behind the wheel following a failed random drug test.
With 60 seasons of competition, there will be no shortage of worthy candidates for the first several induction ceremonies at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
