Pels Provide Fireworks in 11-7 Win

The Pensacola Pelicans provided their own fireworks on the Fourth of July, as both Chase Burch and Lester Contreras hit bombs en route to an 11-7 victory over the Fort Worth Cats. The Pelicans would need 13 innings to claim the win, as Ulysses Roque pitched the final three innings without allowing a run to earn his fourth win of the year.

Our national anthem

The lyrics come from “Defence of Fort McHenry”, a poem written in 1814 by the 35-year-old amateur poet Francis Scott Key after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by Royal Navy ships in Chesapeake Bay during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812.
