Gloster businesswoman buys Wilk-Amite Record

GLOSTER— Even though she has no newspaper experience, when Gloster businesswoman Betty Stevens heard the Wilk-Amite Record was about to close, she bought it. The weekly Gloster-based paper published its first edition under new ownership last week, with a new masthead.

"Goat Song" (Scribner, 256 pages, $24), by Brad Kessler: You won't find "Goat Song" on any lists of must-read summer potboilers. After all, it's a hermit writer's memoir, about raising goats and making cheese on a Vermont farm. Not exactly the stuff of best sellers.
