FRIDAY, July 3 (HealthDay News) -- U.S. researchers say they've found a major cellular flaw that may drive the rapid spread of relapsed lung cancer. When caught early, lung cancer can often be treated. But most cases are not detected until the disease is well advanced.

Pfizer drug slows progression of a type of pancreatic cancer

AstraZeneca announced that it has received a licence by the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) for its oral targeted anti-cancer drug, gefitinib, for EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase) activating mutation positive patients with Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). NSCLC is the most common type of lung cancer and accounts for 80% of all lung cancer cases.

Sutent Significantly Improved Progression-Free Survival For Patients With Advanced Pancreatic Islet Cell Tumours

Pfizer announced preliminary results from a randomized Phase 3 trial of Sutent (sunitinib malate) in patients with advanced pancreatic islet cell tumours, also known as pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours, which is a different type of cancer than the more common pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Study findings demonstrated that median progression-free survival (PFS) was 11.
