OKANOGAN – The pool through which many local cities and fire districts buy their insurance does not have enough assets to cover potential liabilities and has been ordered by the state to clean up its finances.
LOS ANGELES — The Obama administration on Monday asked California's largest for-profit health insurer to justify plans to hike customers' premiums by as much as 39 percent, a move that could affect some 800,000 people.
Two House panels announce they are investigating the hikes, which take effect March 1. Lawmakers ask the company's CEO to explain the reasons for the increases. Congress opened an investigation Tuesday into Anthem Blue Cross' impending rate increases in California as President Obama cited the premium hikes -- some as high as 39% -- in his bid to pass national healthcare legislation.
Sacramento, CA -- State Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner wants Anthem Blue Cross to postpone health insurance rate hikes until there's a full review.
The health insurer has declined to say how many policyholders are being affected by the hike despite rising pressure from U.S health officials.
