Body found in house fire identified

A man who died in a house fire early Tuesday morning in the Whitton community has been identified as Clay Elliot Burns, 26. Burns died in a fire that destroyed his home at 6750 County Road 23, according to Sheriff Jimmy Harris, who said the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

Afghans airlift bodies as avalanche death toll hits 166

KABUL — Helicopters ferried rescuers to and bodies away from the site of a massive avalanches that blocked an important mountain pass north of Kabul as the death toll soared today to 166, officials said. Hundreds more remained trapped in snowbound cars.

Top speller headed back to state

Ider student Allison Black proved her smarts when she won the DeKalb County Spelling Bee on Thursday for the second year in a row. Black, who spelled “anomaly” correctly to win the Times-Journal sponsored bee this year, came in second at the state bee last year.
